SUNNYBOY ice blocks are now a thing of the past and Aussie summers will never be the same.
In a statement, The Daily Juice Co. confirmed that it has ceased production of the pyramid-shaped frozen treats due to a “sustained reduction in consumer demand” over time.
“The Daily Juice Co can confirm that we have regrettably had to make the hard decision to stop production of the icy treat, Sunnyboy, as of August 2016,” a spokesperson for the company said. “Unfortunately, Sunnyboy has experienced a sustained reduction in consumer demand over a long period of time, making it necessary to delete the product from our range of water ice treats.”
Sure, they were near-impossible to eat if you didn’t cut the corner at just the right angle, and they had a habit of slipping through your sticky fingers. But they came in four glorious flavours — Glug Cola, Orange Explosion and Razz Raspberry and Zap Lime — and for any 90s kid, they were an essential canteen treat on stinking hot summer days.
Naturally, Aussies are mourning the loss of the sweet staple on social media.
The silver lining? The folks at The Daily Juice Co. reassured consumers that no other products will be affected by the sudden deletion and we will “still be able to purchase all our other popular brands, including Zooper Dooper and Quelch.”
Phew, imagine if they ripped Sunnyboy AND Zooper Dooper from our fond childhood memories in one fell swoop?
