Ville Valo is a Finnish singer, songwriter, and musician. He is the lead vocalist of gothic rock band HIM. HIM was the first Finnish rock band to achieve a gold record, more than 500,000 copies sold, in the United States. Ville has also released solo music. He is also known as Balo the Singing Janitor, Bil Bao, Lux Airam, Rambo Rimbaud, and VV.
Ville was born in Vallila, Helsinki, the son of Anita, who worked as a shoe salesperson and for the city, and Kari Valo, who drove a taxi and later opened a sex shop. His brother, Jesse Vallo, played bass for electrorock/darkwave band Iconcrash. Ville lived in a 19th-century tower house in Munkkiniemi for a time.
