Doreen Chizoba Wigwe (born 12 July 1967 – 9 February 2024) was a Nigerian lawyer, entrepreneur, and philanthropist.
She was the Founder and CEO of Craneburg Construction LTD, a leading Nigerian building and construction firm. Chizoba Wigwe was also famously known as the wife and backbone of Herbert Wigwe, the Co-founder and former CEO of Access Bank.

Early Life
Doreen Chizoba Wigwe was born into the family of the Late Chief Cyprian Chukwuemeka Nwuba and Mrs. Nwuba on July 12, 1967. She is a Nigerian by birth because she was born in a leading private hospital in Lagos Mainland, Lagos State.
Her parents are Nigerians. She is an Igbo woman originally from Achina, Anambra State. Chizoba Wigwe‘s father, Chief Cyprian Chukwuemeka Nwuba, was a Chartered Accountant who served as the African Financial Controller for Shell Petroleum Development Company. Later, Chief Nwuba would become the Group General Manager of Finance and Accounts at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation. Her mother was a civil servant in the education ministry.
During her childhood, Doreen Chizoba Wigwe and her mother, Mrs. Nwuba, migrated overseas and settled in the United States. She spent her formative years there with her mother. Doreen received her elementary and high school education in the United States. She decided to pursue a university education in the United States before moving back to Nigeria.

Doreen Chizoba Wigwe studied at leading public schools for her elementary, middle, and high school education.
After graduating from high school, she decided to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a lawyer. Hence, she enrolled in a law degree program at one of America’s leading universities. After four years of study, she earned a bachelor’s degree in law.
Career
After returning to Nigeria, Chizoba Wigwe pursued her legal education at the Nigerian Law School, where she spent a year before being admitted to the Nigerian Bar. With her license to practice law, Doreen delved into the Nigerian legal landscape, swiftly establishing herself as a solicitor and litigator. Over the years, she lent her expertise to numerous leading and emerging companies in Nigeria, specializing in corporate law, commercial litigation, and arbitration.
Chizoba Wigwe‘s trajectory in the legal arena reached new heights when she joined the legal board of Access Bank, all while pursuing further education. She earned a master’s degree in International Law from the University of London, expanding her knowledge and skills in the legal domain.
Despite her passion for law, Doreen harbored a penchant for entrepreneurship. Alongside her legal career, she ventured into wholesale trading, achieving considerable success. Fuelled by her adventurous spirit, she ventured into the construction industry, founding Craneburg Construction in 2009, an indigenous firm headquartered in Ikoyi, Lagos.
Under Chizoba Wigwe‘s visionary leadership, Craneburg Construction quickly ascended to prominence, becoming one of Nigeria’s leading construction companies. Under her stewardship, the firm has played a pivotal role in the country’s infrastructure development, creating thousands of job opportunities across various sectors. Notable projects include constructing buildings, expressways, and bridges, including the renowned Wigwe Mansion in Ikoyi, Lagos, a testament to Doreen’s prowess in the construction sector.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Chizoba Wigwe stood as a pillar of support for her husband, Herbert Wigwe, a prominent figure in Nigeria’s banking sector. Herbert credits her unwavering support as instrumental to his success, underscoring her pivotal role in his career journey. Doreen’s philanthropic efforts further solidified her legacy, as she tirelessly supported initiatives to empower the girl child, financially disadvantaged women, and low-income families across Nigeria.
Personal Life
In the early 90s, Chizoba Wigwe struck up a close friendship with Herbert Wigwe. At the time, Herbert worked as a General Manager at Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB). The duo soon became lovebirds and dated for a while before they decided to become legally married. They chose to become a family in 1994, so Doreen Nwuba became known as Chizoba Wigwe.
Not long after the couple got married, Chizoba Wigwe became pregnant with their first child, who was born in January 1995. The Wigwes’ first child is a son named Chizi Wigwe. The couple’s union was blessed with three more children: Tochi Wigwe, David Wigwe, and Hannah Wigwe.
Despite her busy schedule as a Lawyer and Entrepreneur, Chizoba Wigwe still made a lot of time for her family. She was a doting mother who was constantly present for her children. She and her family resided in Ikoyi, Lagos. Alongside her husband, she owned several properties across the globe. Unlike other wealthy women of her caliber, she loved to keep a low profile and wasn’t active on social media.
Cause Of Death
On the 9th of February 2024, the world received the shocking news of Chizoba Wigwe‘s demise. She had died in a helicopter crash that involved her husband Herbert Wigwe, first son Chizi Wigwe, and family friend Abimbola Ogunbanjo. The ill-fated crash also took the lives of the two crew members aboard the helicopter.
Alongside her husband and son, Chizoba Wigwe‘s remains were buried on the 9th of March 2024.
